Wolf Portrait
Wolf Portrait

This pastel portrait of this wolf comes from a kit by pastel artist Bob Elcock. Having done most of my pastel paintings on a particular type of paper, I’d begun experimenting with others and had found that the Fabriano Ingres paper I’d been using all that time was quite limited. Having decided to change paper, I tried out the Faber Castell pastel pencils I was using
on other types and they didn’t seem to suit as well as they had with the Fabriano. That meant a experimenting with the pastel pencils as well.
I figured that making such big changes required some guidance to start off with, so picked up this wolf kit from Bob Elcock at an art show near my home. A bit of practice and some useful guidance later and this was the result. The experience enabled me to experiment with even more types of pastel paper and brands of pastel pencil with greater confidence.
