This pastel painting of boats on a beach is one of my development pieces that was painted as I was learning the techniques of pastel pencil art using the kits of art tutor Colin Bradley. This is one of the Beginner set that uses only six pastel pencil colours to achieve the result. I had a couple of goes at this painting as it was one of the earliest I’d tried so there was still a lot of learning to do. Having decided (eventually) that I don’t really like the Fabriano Ingres paper that Colin Bradley preferred for these kits, I might just have another go with a different pastel surface and set of pencils – and possibly a few more colours.
