I hadn’t planned for the next in my 'Bird on a Perch' series to take quite as long after the first one as it did, (six years) but life does that sometimes. Mind you, it’s been more than that since I did this one so I’m probably about due to do another! Part of the reason it took so long to do this second painting was that I was looking for the right one to do next. Then I came across a photograph of a hoopoe and realised it was about time I used some different colours in a painting to the usual green trees, blue skies and grey rocks. I’ve got some purples and reds I haven’t used for a while, so the next one might be a purple finch or a quora.
The pastel paintings in this series will feature many different kinds of birds, from small garden varieties to much bigger birds, such as this hoopoe. The series will include paintings of birds on tree stumps, washing lines, flowers, branches and many other perches.
